Updated.

Hello there and welcome to the latest incarnation of henrytapia.com. This site has been in need of some love for the longest time, so it’s a pleasure (and a relief) to get this latest site redesign live at last. I aim to put more time into design and user experience related posts over the coming months. Or so the theory goes…

A bit more minimal, this new design relies on a grid and the odd bit of nice typography for a clean, smart look. For now, I’m using cufón for embedding custom fonts. I am aware cufón has a few drawbacks and there are some excellent CSS @font-face techniques these days, but unfortunately, they don’t always look so smooth on all platforms (i.e. Windows).

The busy sidebars with their many links and distractions are gone allowing more space for a bit of creative freedom. To that end, the new design allows for some uniqueness in the design of each post. I plan to have fun with the occasional bit of art direction, but I’m not intending to go for the whole blogazine format just for the sake of it.

I’ll be making use of modern web technologies (CSS3, HTML5, etc.) so not everything will always look its best in Internet Explorer. To unfortunate users of IE6, I apologise. I need to get paid for going to the lengths needed to make things work in that vintage browser.

  1. Henry a new era for your web presence, I love your style; always have. :) Fantastic typography choices too. The 2 columns composition works very well on the homepage. Oh and you’ll have to reveal how you did your Twitter insert – I like how that’s working. I could do with that on my foodie blog.

And of course, thank you so much for the linkage. I am flattered to have made it into your mega footer of goodness. :D

  2. Cheers Laura!

That’s specific to that particular blog post, the idea being each post can have its own layout, by having per-post CSS in a custom field.

I used a jQuery plugin called Tweet! along with a bit of custom jQuery and CSS for the fadey navigation.

And of course, thank you so much for the linkage.

    You’re ever so welcome.

  3. Hey Mate,
Loving the new look! I’ve been trying to get something like this off the ground for a while, only got as far as a couple of base templates, before deadlines started looming.

Loving the typography and also the attention to detail.
    Bravo mate. henrytapia.com = WIN

  4. Wow, thanks for the kind words Pete. Much appreciated.
